Roof replacement, repair, metal roofing, and snow removal in Wasilla and the communities around it. We’re 12 miles away in Palmer, and every job starts with a free inspection.
Wasilla is 12 miles down the road from our base in Palmer. We replace and repair roofs here, install metal roofs, fix wind damage after a Matanuska blow, and clear snow in heavy winters. Every job starts with a free inspection, with photos and a written price within 24 hours.

No permit, no inspector: what that means for your roof
The City of Wasilla doesn’t require building permits or plan review, and its code specifically exempts roof repair and replacement from its land-use permit. Outside the cities, the Mat-Su Borough hasn’t adopted a residential building code at all.
So no city or borough inspector checks how a Wasilla house roof goes on. Some lenders require inspections when a new house is financed, but a new roof on an existing house usually gets none. That puts it on the roofer. Here’s what ours includes, in writing:
- The attic first. We check the decking and ventilation before we price, so the scope fits the house.
- Tear-off or re-roof. One sound layer over good decking can take a re-roof. Two layers or bad decking means a tear-off, with decking included in the price.
- Ice and water membrane. At the eaves and in the valleys, where ice dams and meltwater get in.
- Ventilation. Intake at the eaves and exhaust up high, which helps keep the roof deck cold and dry.
- Flashing. New flashing at walls, chimneys, and pipes.
- Cleanup. A magnetic sweep of the yard and driveway, and photos of the finished roof.
The Matanuska wind reaches Wasilla
The Matanuska wind is the cold northeast wind that pours out of the Matanuska Valley, strongest from fall through spring. It hits hardest around Palmer, but it doesn’t stop there. In January 2022 the Wasilla Airport hit 74 mph, and a Wasilla restaurant lost a wall. In early December 2025, gusts reached 72 mph at the Wasilla Airport, part of a big-box store’s roof came off in Wasilla, and a lodge at Settlers Bay took roof damage. The state declared disasters for both storms.
Wind damage starts at the edges: the eaves, the rakes, and the ridge. After a big blow, look for shingles in the yard, lifted tabs, or bent trim, and text us a photo. Storm damage repair →

Snow on Wasilla roofs
NOAA doesn’t publish a snowfall normal for Wasilla itself. The closest station that has one, at Anderson Lake about 5 miles northeast of town, has a normal of about 62 inches a year. Wind moves a lot of that around: it strips one side of a roof and drifts the other deep, and a low roof under a high one catches whatever slides off.
Clearing a heavy roof
Fall protection, plastic tools, and a thin layer left on to protect the roofing, with the price before we start. Roof snow removal →
Keeping slides off the deck
Standing seam lets go of snow all at once, so guards hold it over doors, decks, and gutters. Stone-coated steel holds snow in place much like a shingle roof and usually lets go in smaller slides, so it needs fewer, but it still gets them over doors, decks, and walkways. Snow guards →

Wasilla roofing questions
The questions we get most from Wasilla homeowners. Don’t see yours? Text us and a roofer answers.
Text my rooferNo. The City of Wasilla doesn’t require building permits, and its code exempts roof repair and replacement from its land-use permit. Outside city limits, the Mat-Su Borough hasn’t adopted a residential building code.
Get the scope in writing before work starts. Ours lists tear-off or re-roof, decking, ice and water membrane at the eaves and valleys, ventilation, flashing, and cleanup, line by line, and you get photos of the finished roof.
The Wasilla Airport hit 74 mph in January 2022 and 72 mph in early December 2025, and that storm took part of the roof off a big-box store in Wasilla. Palmer, closer to the mouth of the Matanuska Valley, gets it worse: the same two storms hit 88 and 100 mph at its airport, and its record is 112 mph.
NOAA doesn’t publish a snowfall normal for Wasilla itself. The closest station that has one, at Anderson Lake about 5 miles northeast of town, has a normal of about 62 inches a year. Wind moves a lot of it around, so a drift on one side of a roof can be much deeper than the snow in the yard.
Yes, and in Tanaina, North Lakes, South Lakes, and Settlers Bay. Farther west, see our Big Lake page.
We install both. Stone-coated steel holds snow in place much like a shingle roof, needs fewer guards, and still gets them over doors, decks, and walkways. Standing seam sheds snow, so it needs more guards over entries and decks. Architectural asphalt costs less up front. The inspection is the time to compare prices for your roof.
