The Fortress name is new. The crew behind it is not. We’ve spent twenty-five years roofing houses and buildings across Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, metal and asphalt, residential and commercial, through the kind of winters that find every shortcut a roofer ever took.
That’s why we build around metal. Snow load, ice dams, and wind-driven rain are what take a roof apart early up here. Metal stands up to wind and weather, and it outlasts a shingle you’d replace twice in the same span. Ice dams start in the attic, so that’s where we look for the fix. We install asphalt too, and we’ll tell you when it’s the better call for your house.

Text my rooferIt depends on square footage, pitch, how many layers come off, and whether the decking underneath is sound. Metal costs more up front than asphalt and lasts longer. We won’t guess at a number over the phone. The inspection tells us what’s actually up there, and the written estimate breaks it out line by line.
It costs more up front and usually outlasts two asphalt roofs, which up here means somewhere past forty years against fifteen to twenty-five for asphalt, depending on the shingle. Our stone-coated steel also holds snow in place much like a shingle roof, and we add snow guards wherever a slide could land on steps, a deck, or a car.
Yes, and plenty of them. Architectural asphalt is the right call on a lot of Anchorage and Valley homes, especially where budget or roof geometry makes metal impractical. Architectural is the thicker, laminated grade of asphalt shingle. We’ll tell you which way we’d go and why.
Heat escaping into the attic melts snow on the upper roof, and the water runs down to the cold eaves and refreezes there. A new roof by itself doesn’t fix that. What fixes it is air sealing, insulation, and ventilation, with ice-and-water membrane at the eaves as the backstop, which is why we look at your attic during the inspection and not just the shingles.
Yes, with limits. Repairs and emergency work happen year round. Full replacements are scheduled around temperature and snow, and we will tell you straight if a job should wait for spring.
We document the damage with photos, meet the adjuster on site, and write a scope that matches the damage. You own the claim, and your insurer decides what is covered.
